AUSTRALIA BECOME NEW NUMBER ONE TEST SIDE
Australia have become the number-one ranked Test side at the annual cut-off date for the eighth time.
The 2-0 series win against New Zealand was the defining moment and ensured Australia finished two points ahead of India for the first time since 2009.
Australia have a long-standing reputation as a formidable test side but that reputation has been on the wain over the last seven years with India claiming number one spots in 2010 and 2011, England ending the year as number one in 2012 before South Africa completed a hat-trick of retained top spots from 2013 to 2015.
It is double delight for Steve Smith's men who had earlier topped the ICC ODI team rankings at the annual cut-off date as well.
